How does acupuncture help?

Acupuncture support the self-healing ability of the human body and mind by working on the energy that runs through the body. Our energy is important for who we are, how we can function as a human being: both physically and mentally, or psychologically. Acupuncture is a way of adjusting and empowering the energy, in directing to a better balance. To help the self-healing ability, and doing so, to help yo feel more healthy, energetic or vital.

The central issue in the philosophy of Classical Chinese Medicine is restoring the natural (energetic) balances in a human being. Acupuncture promotes more optimal balances and thus stimulates man’s self-healing capacity.

The Classical Chinese Medicine is a perspective of illness and health that is thousands of years old. Acupuncture is one of the therapeutic forms within this tradition. There’s lots of information on acupuncture on the internet. If you want to know more, I suggest you start with the Wikipedia page on acupuncture.

Needles!?

In concrete terms, treatment at Auryn’s practice consists of inserting needles into the skin: so-called body acupuncture. This treatment is based on the effort to stimulate more optimal balances with as little stimuli (and thus as few needles) as possible; to guide without forcing.

A standard treatment can be supplemented and/or alternated with:

  • ear seeds or tiny needles, also know as auriculo therapy
  • moxibustion
  • cupping therapy
In addition to these techniques from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Serica therapy and Meridian Colour Therapy can be used as part of the treatment, if necessary.

Do these needles hurt, and are there many needles used?

Treatments at Auryn Acupunctuur are pleasant and relaxing, not painful. Now and then you might feel something like a short pin-prick when a needle is being placed. Very few needles are applied during a treatment session: sometimes one, on average three or four, and as an exception six to eight needles.

Please read the description under Consultation to find out what a treatment session involves and how often these take place.
